Season chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides.
Cook the Chicken
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chicken breasts and cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until cooked through and golden brown. Remove chicken from skillet and set aside.
Make the Marinara Sauce
In the same skillet, add minced garlic and chopped onion. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant and translucent.
Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, and balsamic vinegar. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Combine Chicken and Sauce
Return chicken breasts to the skillet, spooning sauce over them. Simmer for another 5 minutes to meld flavors.
Serve
Garnish with fresh parsley or basil and grated Parmesan if desired. Serve hot with your favorite pasta or side.
