Prepare the Chocolate Layer:
Melt the dark chocolate gently using a double boiler or microwave in short bursts, stirring until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
Whip the Cream:
In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
Combine Biscuits and Nuts:
In a large bowl, mix the crushed biscuits with the toasted hazelnuts.
Assemble the Squares:
In a lined baking dish, spread half of the melted chocolate evenly.
Add a layer of the biscuit and hazelnut mixture, pressing lightly.
Spread half of the whipped cream over the biscuit layer.
Repeat with the remaining chocolate, biscuit mixture, and finish with the remaining whipped cream on top.
Chill:
Cover and refrigerate the assembled dessert for at least 4 hours, or overnight, until firm.
Serve:
Once set, cut into squares. Optionally, garnish with additional chopped hazelnuts or chocolate shavings.
