In a small bowl, combine lukewarm milk, lukewarm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let sit for about 5-10 minutes, until foamy and bubbly.
Prepare the dough:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the softened butter, vegetable oil, and eggs.
Combine wet and dry:
Add the activated yeast mixture to the bowl with butter and eggs. Stir to combine.
Add flour and salt:
Gradually add the flour and salt to the wet ingredients, mixing as you go until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough:
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First rise:
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Shape and second rise:
Punch down the dough and shape it according to your recipe (rolls, loaf, braid). Let it rise again for 30-45 minutes.
Bake:
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake your shaped dough for 25-35 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
