In a bowl, mix warm milk and dry yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until bubbly.
Make the Dough
Add the egg, sugar, orange zest, and oil. Mix well. Gradually add the flour and salt, kneading into a soft dough (about 10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes with a mixer).
Let It Rise
Cover the dough and let it rise for 1–1.5 hours in a warm place until doubled in size.
Shape the Dough
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1–2 cm thickness. Cut out circles with a cup or ring.
Second Rise
Place the circles on a tray, cover, and let them rest for another 30 minutes.
Fry the Dough
Heat the seed oil in a pan. Fry the dough rounds on medium heat until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels.
Fill with Custard
Use a piping bag to fill each dough round with custard through a small slit.
Coat with Sugar
While still warm, roll or sprinkle each one with sugar.
