Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 500°F (260°C).
Prepare the Meat: Place the prime rib roast on a rack in a roasting pan. Pat it dry with paper towels.
Season: Rub olive oil all over the roast. Generously season with salt and black pepper.
Add Garlic (Optional): Use a paring knife to cut small slits in the meat and insert peeled garlic cloves for added flavor.
Initial Sear: Roast the prime rib at 500°F (260°C) for 15 minutes to create a flavorful crust.
Lower the Heat: Reduce oven temperature to 325°F (160°C) and continue roasting until desired doneness is reached:
Medium-Rare: 135°F (57°C) internal temperature
Medium: 140°F (60°C)
Well-Done: 150°F (66°C)
Use a meat thermometer to check doneness accurately.
Rest Before Serving: Remove roast from oven, tent with foil, and let rest for 15–20 minutes. This allows juices to redistribute for maximum flavor.
Slice and Serve: Cut into thick slices and serve with your favorite sides.
