1 whole turkey (10–14 pounds)
4 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
1 teaspoon dried rosemary (optional)
1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
1 large onion, quartered
2 carrots, cut into chunks
2 celery stalks, cut into chunks
1 plastic oven roasting bag (large size)
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (to coat the bag)
