5 Necessary Care Tips So Your Jade Tree Doesn’t Die

One of the biggest killers of jade trees is overwatering. Water only when the top 1-2 inches of soil are dry. In summer, this might be once every 1-2 weeks; in winter, even less. Ensure your pot has drainage holes so excess water can escape — soggy roots cause root rot.

3. Use Well-Draining Soil
Jade trees need soil that drains quickly to prevent root rot. Use a cactus or succulent potting mix, or make your own by mixing regular potting soil with sand or perlite. Avoid heavy garden soils.

4. Maintain Moderate Temperatures
Jade trees prefer temperatures between 65-75°F (18-24°C). Avoid placing them near cold drafts, air conditioners, or heaters. They can tolerate slightly cooler temperatures in winter but should never be exposed to frost.

5. Fertilize Sparingly
Feed your jade tree with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength, about once every 2-3 months during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilizing in fall and winter when the plant is dormant.

Bonus Tips:
Remove any dead or yellowing leaves to keep your plant healthy.

Repot every 2-3 years to refresh the soil and give roots room to grow.
