Cook the meat: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or turkey until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
Add seasoning: Stir in the taco seasoning and salsa. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until well combined. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Prepare pastry: Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cut slits on both long sides of the pastry, leaving the center intact for the filling.
Assemble: Spoon the meat mixture down the center of the pastry. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
Braid: Fold the strips over the filling, alternating sides to create a braid. Press ends to seal.
Egg wash: Brush the beaten egg over the braid to get a golden crust.
Bake: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes or until pastry is golden brown and puffed.
Serve: Slice and serve warm with sour cream and your favorite toppings.
