Line your container with aluminum foil — shiny side up.
Place your tarnished silver pieces directly on the foil.
Sprinkle baking soda over the silver — about 2 tablespoons or enough to cover them.
Pour boiling water over the silver until fully submerged. The mixture will bubble and fizz — this is a chemical reaction that removes tarnish.
Let it sit for 2–5 minutes depending on the level of tarnish.
Remove your silver carefully, rinse under cool water, and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
Buff gently to restore a brilliant shine.
Why This Works
The aluminum and baking soda solution creates an electrochemical reaction. The tarnish (silver sulfide) transfers from your silver to the aluminum foil, effectively cleaning your items without harsh scrubbing.
