Peel and thinly slice the ginger root.
Boil 2 cups of water and add the ginger slices. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
Remove from heat and strain the liquid into a cup.
Squeeze the juice of one large lemon into the ginger water.
Stir in honey if desired for sweetness.
Add a pinch of cayenne pepper for an extra metabolism kick and stir well.
Drink warm, preferably on an empty stomach in the morning.
