¼ cup water
¼ cup (57g) butter, softened or melted
2 tbsp (27g) granulated sugar
1 tbsp instant or active dry yeast
1 large egg
1 ¼ tsp salt
4 ¼ to 4 ½ cups (604–639g) all-purpose flour
Additional butter, for brushing
How to Make
Prepare the Liquid Base
Heat the milk until bubbles form around the edges and it steams.
Pour the milk into the bowl of a stand mixer. Add water, butter, and sugar.
Let the mixture cool until warm to the touch (like a warm bath).
Activate the Yeast
