Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F). Grease a baking tray with butter.
In a pan, sauté the chopped onion in a little butter until translucent.
Add the minced meat and dried basil. Cook until the meat is browned and cooked through. Season with salt and pepper. Let it cool slightly.
Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut into squares or rectangles, depending on your preference.
Place a spoonful of the meat mixture on each pastry piece, then sprinkle grated cheese on top.
Fold the pastry over to form a pocket and press edges firmly to seal.
Beat the egg and brush it over the pastries for a golden finish.
Arrange the pastries on the greased baking tray and bake for 15-20 minutes or until puffed and golden.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
