Cherry Pie Bars

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined.

Spread half of the batter evenly into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan.

Spread the cherry pie filling or fresh cherries evenly over the batter layer.

Drop spoonfuls of the remaining batter over the cherries and gently spread to cover as much as possible.

Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Allow to cool before cutting into bars.
