3 ripe bananas, mashed
½ cup (1 stick) butter, at room temperature
¾ cup white sugar (or 1 scant cup honey for a natural version)
2 eggs, room temperature
1½ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
(Optional) ½ cup chopped walnuts or chocolate chips
