Dealing with Dark Spots on Avocados: Causes, Solutions, and Tips

Cut the avocado in half lengthwise and remove the pit.

Inspect the flesh carefully. Dark spots can range from small specks to larger patches.

If the dark spots are small and localized, scoop around them and discard the affected area. The rest is usually fine to eat.

If the spots are widespread or the avocado smells off, it’s best to discard it.

To prevent browning after cutting, squeeze a little lemon or lime juice on the exposed flesh.
