Check the care label on your pillows to determine if they are machine washable. Most synthetic and down pillows can be washed; memory foam pillows require spot cleaning.
For machine-washable pillows, place two pillows in the washing machine to balance the load.
Add 1/2 cup mild liquid detergent and 1/2 cup baking soda to the wash cycle. Baking soda helps to brighten and deodorize the pillows.
Use warm water and select a gentle or delicate cycle.
At the rinse cycle, add 1/2 cup white vinegar to naturally break down residues and soften pillows.
After washing, run an extra rinse cycle to remove any leftover detergent or vinegar smell.
Dry pillows thoroughly—preferably in a dryer on low heat with clean tennis balls or dryer balls to fluff them. Alternatively, air dry in a sunny spot, flipping occasionally.
Once dry, sprinkle a few drops of your favorite essential oil on the pillows or pillowcases for a pleasant scent.
