Clean the sponge thoroughly if it was previously used in the kitchen. Avoid any sponges used with chemicals or strong cleaners.

Cut the sponge into a few pieces (if necessary) to fit the bottom of your plant pot.

Place the sponge pieces at the base of the pot before adding soil.

Add potting soil on top, then place your plant and water as usual.
