Select a fresh, plump piece of ginger root with several “eyes” or small growth buds.
Soak the ginger root in warm water overnight to encourage sprouting.
Fill a pot with well-draining, fertile potting soil.
Plant the ginger root about 2-3 inches deep with the buds facing upward. Cover lightly with soil.
Water the soil lightly but consistently to keep it moist, not soggy. Ginger thrives in humid conditions.
Place the pot in a warm, indirect sunlight spot (ideal temperatures are between 22-25°C or 72-77°F).
Within a few weeks, you should see shoots emerging. Continue watering regularly and misting leaves if indoor air is dry.
Fertilize monthly with a balanced organic fertilizer to support healthy growth.
Ginger takes 8-10 months to mature. Harvest by carefully digging up roots when the plant is about 10 months old, or you can harvest smaller portions by cutting off pieces as needed while allowing the plant to continue growing.
