How to Build a Homemade Egg Incubator Using a Water Bottle

Cut the top off the plastic water bottle, creating an open container to hold the eggs. Make sure the edges are smooth to prevent injury.

Set Up the Heating Element
Place a small light bulb inside the cardboard box, or position a low-wattage heating pad as the heat source. The goal is to maintain an incubator temperature of around 99-102°F (37-39°C).

Add the Humidity Source
Place a small container of water inside the box to maintain humidity. You can add a damp cotton ball or sponge to increase moisture levels. Humidity is crucial for preventing the eggs from drying out during incubation.

Insert the Thermometer
Place a thermometer inside the box, close to where the eggs will be, to monitor the temperature accurately.

Position the Water Bottle
Place the cut water bottle over the eggs to create a mini greenhouse effect, helping retain heat and humidity.

Place the Eggs
Arrange the fertilized eggs inside the water bottle base, spaced evenly. Turn the eggs gently at least twice a day to ensure even development.

Monitor and Adjust
Check temperature and humidity daily, adjusting the heat source or water levels as necessary. The incubator should maintain steady warmth and humidity for approximately 21 days until the chicks hatch.
