Festive Christmas Balls: Soft and Buttery Holiday Treats

Prepare the dough:
In a bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, sugar, and salt until smooth. Melt the butter and let it cool slightly, then add it to the mixture. Stir to combine.

Add dry ingredients:
In a separate bowl, mix the flour with the baking powder. Gradually incorporate the dry mixture into the wet mixture, stirring until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms. Let it rest for 10–15 minutes.

Shape the balls:
Lightly flour your hands and form small balls from the dough, about the size of a walnut. You should get around 15–18 balls depending on size.

Fry until golden:
Heat the oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add a few dough balls at a time, frying until golden brown on all sides (about 3–4 minutes per batch). Don’t overcrowd the pan.

Drain and coat:
Remove the fried balls with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. While still warm, roll in powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar if desired.
