Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a skillet, cook the ground beef (or turkey) over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
Add the taco seasoning and salsa to the cooked meat. Stir to combine and cook for another 2–3 minutes until heated through.
Unroll the crescent dough on a baking sheet, arranging the dough into a rectangle.
Spoon the taco meat mixture down the center of the dough, then sprinkle with shredded cheese.
Make diagonal cuts along both sides of the dough, then fold the strips over the filling, alternating sides to create a braid-like pattern.
Bake the braid in the preheated oven for 15–18 minutes, or until the dough is golden and cooked through.
Let cool slightly before serving. Serve with optional toppings.
