Simple and Delicious Homemade Fig Jam

Wash the figs, remove the stems, and chop them into small pieces.

Cook the Mixture:
In a large pot, combine the chopped figs, sugar, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the figs break down and the mixture thickens (about 20-30 minutes).

Optional Step - Add Vanilla:
If using vanilla extract, add it during the last 5 minutes of cooking.

Check for Doneness:
To test if the jam is ready, place a small spoonful on a cold plate. If it thickens and holds its shape, the jam is done. If it's too runny, cook for a few more minutes.

Jar the Jam:
Pour the jam into sterilized jars while still hot. Seal the jars tightly and let them cool at room temperature.
