Before cleaning, ensure that the radiator is turned off and completely cool. This prevents any burns or accidents.
Dust and Vacuum:
Use a soft cloth or vacuum with a brush attachment to remove any dust or debris from the radiator’s surface. If possible, vacuum in between the fins to remove hidden dirt. Dusting regularly will prevent buildup and make cleaning easier.
Prepare the Cleaning Solution:
In a bucket, mix equal parts of warm water, white vinegar, and a few drops of dish soap. For yellowing stains, you can add a teaspoon of baking soda to help lift stubborn grime.
Wipe the Radiator:
Dip a soft cloth or sponge into the solution and gently wipe down the radiator’s surface. For yellow stains, use a circular motion to scrub the area. If there are areas with deeper stains, an old toothbrush can help scrub between the fins or around detailed areas.
Rinse and Dry:
Once you’ve scrubbed all the surfaces, rinse the radiator with a clean, damp cloth to remove any cleaning solution residue. Follow up with a dry cloth to ensure the surface is completely dry.
Polish for Shine:
To restore the shine of your radiator, apply a non-abrasive polish designed for cast iron. Follow the product instructions and use a clean, soft cloth to apply a thin layer, buffing the surface to a smooth, shiny finish.
Repeat if Necessary:
If the yellowing persists, repeat the process or let the radiator sit for a few hours after cleaning before wiping again to ensure all grime is lifted.
