Make the Simple Syrup:
In a small saucepan, combine 2 cups of water with the sugar over medium heat. Whisk constantly until the sugar fully dissolves and the mixture becomes clear. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
Prepare the Lemon Base:
In a large pitcher, pour in the remaining 2 cups of water.
Add Lemon Juice:
Juice the lemons and strain if you prefer pulp-free lemonade. Add the fresh lemon juice to the pitcher.
Combine:
Pour the cooled sugar-water mixture (simple syrup) into the pitcher. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
Chill and Serve:
Refrigerate the lemonade for at least 2 hours, or until well chilled. Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices if desired.
