Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder.
Stir in the shredded cheddar until evenly coated.
In a separate bowl, mix milk, egg, melted butter, and honey (if using).
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined — don’t overmix.
Pour batter into the loaf pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
