Prepare the Bottle: Cut the soda bottle in half just above the middle. You’ll use the bottom part to hold the syrup and the top part to create a funnel.
Make the Syrup: Boil the water and dissolve the brown sugar in it. Once the sugar is dissolved, allow the syrup to cool to below 30°C (86°F). If you’re in a hurry, place it in the fridge to speed up the cooling process.
Assemble the Trap: Pour the cooled syrup into the bottom half of the bottle. Then, add the brewer’s yeast without stirring. The yeast will begin fermenting the syrup, creating gases that attract mosquitoes.
Assemble the Trap: Invert the top half of the bottle and insert it into the bottom half. It should fit snugly, creating a funnel effect. Use tape to secure the two parts together.
