Start by removing all food from both the fridge and freezer. Store perishable items in a cooler to keep them cold while you defrost.
Unplug the Fridge:
Unplug the fridge to stop the appliance from running while you defrost. This will speed up the process and help prevent any electrical accidents.
Use Warm Water:
Place a bowl of warm water on the bottom shelf of the freezer and close the door. The steam will help loosen the ice, making it easier to remove.
Scrape the Ice:
After letting the warm water sit for a few minutes, use a plastic scraper or spatula to gently remove the ice. Be careful not to damage the freezer's walls with sharp objects.
Wipe Up the Water:
As the ice melts, towels or rags will be useful to soak up the water. Keep a few towels handy for quick clean-up.
Use a Fan (Optional):
If you’re in a rush, placing a fan in front of the open fridge will help circulate the air and speed up the defrosting process.
Clean the Fridge:
Once all the ice has been removed, wipe down the interior with warm soapy water. Dry it completely before plugging the fridge back in and restocking it with food.
