Fluffy Chinese Steamed Buns (Baozi) That Everyone Loves

In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, yeast, baking powder, and salt. Slowly add lukewarm water while mixing, then add oil. Knead the dough for 10 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1–1.5 hours or until doubled.

Prepare the filling:
Mix all filling ingredients in a bowl and set aside. You can also use vegetables or tofu for a vegetarian version.

Shape the buns:
Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Flatten each one into a small circle and place a spoonful of filling in the center. Gather and pinch the edges to seal. Let them rest for 15 minutes.

Steam the buns:
Place buns on parchment paper in a steamer. Steam over boiling water for 15–18 minutes. Turn off heat and let them sit for 2 minutes before removing the lid.
