Why roll it when you can stack it? This deconstructed sushi square is a hearty, plant-based twist on traditional sushi. With crispy tofu coated in a sweet teriyaki glaze, creamy avocado, and seasoned rice, it delivers big flavor in a bold new format — no rolling mat needed.

Ingredients:
For the Crispy Tofu:

1 block extra-firm tofu (pressed and cubed)

1/4 cup cornstarch

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/4 tsp black pepper

Oil for pan-frying

For the Teriyaki Sauce:

1/4 cup soy sauce

2 tbsp maple syrup or honey

1 tbsp rice vinegar

1 clove garlic (minced)

1 tsp grated ginger

1 tsp cornstarch + 2 tsp water (for slurry)

For the Rice Base:

2 cups cooked sushi rice (or short-grain rice)

1 tbsp rice vinegar

1/2 tsp sugar

Pinch of salt

For Toppings:

1 ripe avocado (sliced)

Sesame seeds

Finely chopped scallions

Optional: shredded nori, cucumber ribbons
