French Butter Cake

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan or line with parchment paper.

Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy (3–5 minutes).

Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

Add dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined.

Pour into prepared pan and smooth the top.

Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Serve plain or dusted with powdered sugar, fresh fruit, or whipped cream.
