Activate Yeast: Mix the yeast into the warm milk and let it sit for 7 minutes until slightly foamy.
Prepare Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder. Add the egg, melted butter, and the yeast-milk mixture.
Knead: Mix until a soft dough forms. Knead lightly for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise: Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for 45–60 minutes, or until doubled in size.
Shape Scones: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Gently roll or press it to about 2.5 cm (1 inch) thick. Cut out rounds with a cookie cutter or glass.
Second Rise: Place the scones on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for another 20 minutes.
Bake: Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Brush scones with egg wash (optional) and bake for 15–18 minutes or until golden and puffed.
Cool and Serve: Let cool slightly before serving with butter, jam, or cream.
