In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir and let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
Make the Dough:
Add salt and olive oil. Gradually mix in the flour, one cup at a time, until a soft and sticky dough forms.
Let It Rise:
Cover the bowl with a damp towel or plastic wrap. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 30–40 minutes, or until doubled in size.
Shape the Bread:
Generously sprinkle cornmeal on a baking tray. With floured hands, shape the dough into a round or oval loaf. Place it on the tray.
Bake:
Preheat oven to 220°C (430°F). Optionally, score the top with a sharp knife. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and the bottom sounds hollow when tapped.
