In a large bowl, mix lukewarm milk with sugar and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Mix the Dough:
Add the egg and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Stir well.
Gradually mix in the flour and salt. Knead by hand or with a stand mixer for 8–10 minutes until the dough is soft and elastic.
First Rise:
Cover the bowl with a towel or plastic wrap. Let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
Shape and Fill (Optional):
Use the dough for rolls, buns, braids, or your favorite sweet pastry. Add fillings like cinnamon sugar, jam, or cream cheese if desired.
Second Rise:
Place shaped dough on a baking tray. Cover and let rise for another 30–45 minutes.
Bake:
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown.
Optionally brush with melted butter or glaze while warm.
