Peel the onions and slice off the top, leaving the root intact.
Using a sharp knife, carefully cut the onions into wedges, making sure to keep the root end in place (this will help hold the onion together as it blooms).
Gently separate the layers to create the "blooming" effect.
Make the Coating:
In a bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, and salt. Mix well to combine.
Coat the Onions:
Gently dip each onion in the flour mixture, making sure to coat all the petals evenly. For extra crispiness, you can dip the onion in a little beaten egg before coating it in the flour mixture again.
Shake off any excess flour and make sure the onion is well-coated.
Air Fry the Onions:
Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
Lightly spray the basket of the air fryer with cooking spray. Place the prepared onions in the air fryer basket, making sure they don’t touch each other.
Air fry for 12-15 minutes, or until the onions are golden and crispy. Check halfway through and shake the basket to ensure even cooking.
Serve:
Once the mini blooming onions are crispy and cooked through, remove them from the air fryer and serve hot with a dipping sauce of your choice (such as ranch, aioli, or ketchup).
