Grease an 8-inch round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.

Stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk.

Start and end with the dry ingredients.

Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth and silky.

5๏ธโƒฃ Fold in Cherries:
Gently fold in the fresh cherries.

6๏ธโƒฃ Bake:
Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.

Bake for 30โ€“35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
