Preheat the Oven:
Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round or square baking dish with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
Mix the Custard:
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, salt, and vanilla extract. Make sure the mixture is smooth and well combined.
Add the Milk:
Gradually add the whole milk to the egg mixture, whisking constantly to ensure everything is blended smoothly.
Pour into the Baking Dish:
Pour the custard mixture into the prepared baking dish. You’ll see a smooth, creamy liquid filling the dish.
Add Nutmeg:
If you like a bit of spice, sprinkle a light dusting of ground nutmeg on top of the custard mixture. This will add a subtle flavor and give the custard a nice golden touch once baked.
Bake:
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes. The custard is done when it is set and slightly golden on top. You can test it by gently shaking the dish – if the center is firm and not liquid, it’s ready.
Cool and Serve:
Let the custard cool for a bit before serving. It can be enjoyed warm, or you can refrigerate it for a few hours for a cool, refreshing treat.
