After two days, remove the skillet from the trash bag. Put on your gloves and use a steel wool pad or scrubbing brush to scrub away any remaining residue, rust, and old seasoning. Be thorough to ensure you’ve removed all buildup.
Step 6: Rinse and Dry the Skillet
Rinse the skillet with warm water and dry it completely using paper towels or a clean cloth. Make sure there’s no moisture left on the skillet before proceeding.
Step 7: Season the Skillet
Once the skillet is clean and dry, it’s time to reseason it. Apply a thin layer of vegetable oil (or another high-smoke-point oil) to the entire surface of the skillet. You can use a paper towel to spread a thin, even coat of oil.
