Step 1: Brew Strong Coffee
Brew 4-5 cups of strong coffee. The stronger, the better, so use a lot of coffee grounds to make it as concentrated as possible. Let it cool to room temperature.
Step 2: Soak the Clothes
Fill a tub, bucket, or sink with enough water to submerge your clothes. Add the brewed coffee to the water (around 2-3 cups, depending on the size of your load).
Add 1/2 cup of vinegar to the coffee-water mixture. The vinegar helps set the coffee dye and keep the color lasting longer.
Stir the mixture to ensure the coffee and vinegar are well combined.
Step 3: Soak the Clothes
Place your dark clothes into the coffee-water mixture, making sure they are fully submerged. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally to make sure the color is evenly distributed.
Step 4: Rinse and Dry
Once the clothes have absorbed the coffee, rinse them thoroughly with cold water to remove any excess coffee and vinegar.
Dry the clothes as usual—preferably air-drying, as this will help maintain the color intensity.
