If using a plastic bottle, cut the top off about one-third of the way down. If you're using a jar, this step can be skipped as you’ll use the jar as-is.
Mix the Attractant Solution:
In the bottom part of the bottle or in your jar, combine the vinegar, water, and sugar. Stir until the sugar is mostly dissolved.
Add Dish Soap:
Add a few drops of dish soap to the solution. This breaks the surface tension of the liquid, making it harder for flies to escape once they land in the trap.
Set the Trap:
If using a plastic bottle, place the top part of the bottle (cut like a funnel) into the bottom, inverted. This creates an entry point for flies but makes it difficult for them to escape. If you're using a jar, simply leave it as is. The flies will be attracted to the liquid but won’t be able to escape due to the surface tension and slippery sides.
Place the Trap:
Position your trap where flies tend to be most common, such as near garbage cans, fruit baskets, or exposed food. If possible, place the trap in a sunny spot as the warmth intensifies the vinegar’s aroma, making it even more enticing to flies.
