In a large bowl, combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, pepper, salt, onion powder, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well and form into thick, even patties.
Cook the Patties and Onions:
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add patties and sliced onions. Cook until the patties are browned on both sides and the onions are softened. Remove patties and set aside.
Make the Onion Gravy:
Sprinkle flour over the onions and pan drippings. Stir constantly, scraping up the flavorful bits. Gradually whisk in beef broth until smooth. Season with salt.
Simmer Together:
Return the patties to the skillet. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes until the gravy thickens and flavors meld.
