Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mix Dry Ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
Cream the Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, cream the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. Continue mixing until smooth.
Combine the Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Add Chocolate Chips and Nuts: Fold in the chocolate chips (and nuts if using). Mix until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Form the Cookie: Scoop all the cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheet. Flatten it out into a large, round cookie shape, about 1 inch thick. You can shape it into a circle or square, depending on your preference.
Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the center is still slightly soft. (Keep in mind that the cookie will continue to set as it cools.)
Cool and Serve: Let the giant cookie cool on the baking sheet for 10-15 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and serve!
