Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease and flour a 9x5-inch loaf pan, or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
Step 2: Prepare the Wet Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. You can use an electric mixer or a whisk for this.
Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Stir in the mashed bananas and vanilla extract until well combined.
Step 3: Combine the Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon (if using).
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
Step 4: Add Optional Mix-ins
If you're using walnuts or chocolate chips, fold them into the batter.
Step 5: Bake the Banana Bread
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it out evenly.
Bake for 60-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
If the top is browning too quickly, cover it loosely with aluminum foil during the last 15 minutes of baking.
Step 6: Cool the Bread
Allow the banana bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 7: Serve
Slice and enjoy your homemade banana bread! It’s perfect on its own or with a spread of butter or nut butter.
