Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
Prepare the Puff Pastry:
Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface to smooth out any creases. If you’re using a square sheet of puff pastry, you can cut it into 4 smaller squares.
Assemble the Pastry:
Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese in the center of each puff pastry square. If desired, add a small smear of Dijon mustard for extra flavor. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Fold and Seal:
Fold the pastry over the filling to form a triangle or rectangle, depending on your preference. Press the edges down with a fork to seal the pastry. You can also brush a little water along the edges before sealing to help the pastry stick together.
Egg Wash:
Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush it over the top of each puff pastry to give it a golden, shiny finish when baked.
Bake the Pastry:
Place the prepared pastries on the baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden and crispy. Keep an eye on them to make sure they don’t burn.
Serve:
Let the ham and cheese puff pastries cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them as a quick snack, appetizer, or part of a light meal!
