- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon milk (or more for desired consistency)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions :
Step 1: Prepare the Cake Batter
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then mix in the molasses, buttermilk, orange zest, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay!
