Ingredients

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, divided
  • 1 cup yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 ¾ teaspoons kosher salt, divided
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced, divided
  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef or a mixture of pork, veal, and beef (meat-loaf mix)
  • 1 (28 ounce) jar marinara sauce
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh basil, plus more for garnish
  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • 2 ½ cups heavy cream
  • 1 ½ cups grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • crushed red pepper (Optional)
