Grandma’s Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Combine cubed bread and raisins in a large bowl.
  2. In a 1-quart saucepan, combine milk and 1/4 cup butter. Cook over medium heat until the butter is melted (4 to 7 minutes).
  3. Pour the milk mixture over the bread and raisins; let it stand for 10 minutes.
  4. Stir in all remaining pudding ingredients. Pour the mixture into a greased 1 1/2-quart casserole.
  5. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until set in the center.

Directions for Sauce:

  1. In a 1-quart saucepan, combine all sauce ingredients except vanilla.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens and comes to a full boil (5 to 8 minutes).
  3. Stir in vanilla.

To Serve:

  1. Spoon warm bread pudding into individual dessert dishes.
  2. Serve with the prepared vanilla sauce.
  3. Store refrigerated.
